Throughout Term One, Year 8 and Year 9 Music and Drama classes having been studying the performing art of 'Musical Theatre'.

This has involved learning about both on and off stage aspects including lighting, set design, choreography, timing and singing. 

Over the term each class worked on learning a whole class number, and on forming smaller groups of solos, duets and trios. During the last week of the term, each class performed their whole group musical number for their peers. Some classes worked collaboratively to produce fabulous performances and some students even shared their solos and trios. Items shared included song and dances to 'Revolting Children' from Matilda the musical, 'This is Me' from The Greatest Showman, both 'We Know the Way' and 'You're Welcome' from Moana, and even a dance to the 'Time Warp'.

The students' hard work, focus and effort certainly shone through and the audience was spoiled by the talent and energy they brought to the stage. 

When reflecting on their learning, students shared the following thoughts on their blogs. 

Jaime from 9Rc tells us, "Practising for the musical number taught me a lot. From confidence to learning, choreography to even just how to hold a microphone. The skills I learnt have increased my confidence and capability to perform like this in the future". 

Logan in 9Bu states "I enjoyed performing the musical because it was good to see all the hard work go to good use". 

 Something that Nadia in 9Ak enjoyed was "using my facial expressions in the musical performance". 

I love it when people use all their energy in their performance. This term these students will build on the performing talents they learnt in musical theatre as they begin working towards their next performance to celebrate Matariki. We hope to see you there!
