Year 9 Dean's Report

Sarah Handley —

Kia Ora. Our awesome year has continued into March with lots of CARR postcards heading to the homes of our Year 9 students. It is great to see our learners not only making such a positive start to the year, but maintaining this energy into the middle of the term.

Our focus continues to be on ensuring all students arrive to class on time with the equipment needed for learning and we thank you for supporting them to reach this goal.

During Dean's Hui this term we are focusing on positive relationships and preventing bullying in our school community. We define bullying as behaviour that causes harm, is repetitive, is deliberate and has an imbalance of power. Students who witness bullying are encouraged to be ‘outstanders’ by supporting their peers, including others, and seeking adult help when a situation becomes unsafe.

The highlight for this month so far was certainly the Year 9’s participation in the Stars Day out at Lake Rua and the Groynes. Our first classes headed out on the Monday, demonstrating resilience with their positive attitudes and participation despite the pouring rain. 9Wd was lucky to be joined by New Zealand Rugby Player of the Year, Kendra Cocksedge for the day and were even filmed for a segment on TVNZ’s Sunday program, airing on March 25th.

All the classes took part in raft building, high ropes and team building exercises. It was amazing to see our students taking risks, trying new things and supporting each other to achieve their goals.
