Learning Support Students’ Trip to Sumner Beach
On Monday 4 November, 6 of our Senior Learning Support students set sail to Sumner Beach.
The purpose of the outing was to meet up with Henry Sunderland (ex.Hornby High HOD Art and ARA) and see what he had for us to create. He had 2 garden gnomes in his bag and we’d brought an assortment of old shoes, toys and bottles. We painted the objects with PVA glue, poured fine dry sand over them and set them up on the beach for passers-by to admire. We also searched for shells, decorated them and left them dotted around for people to collect (some did so, even before we left the beach).
After a snack, we took Henry home where he and Gary Endacott (MOE) shared the adventures of Achilles the Gnome with us. Gary took Achilles with him when he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. Henry and Gary have been part of the Hornby family since last century and always support us in our work, so mega-thanks to them and Dana, Caitlin and Anne for supporting us on the day too.
