Kia ora all Hornby High School students and whānau, My name is Aaron Heath and I am the teacher in charge of senior student leadership at Hornby High School and the biggest part of that role is the prefect group.

This year we have done things slightly differently as we have 2 prefects in charge of each committee: Academic, Mana Horomaka, Culture, Sports and Arts. We then have our head prefects overseeing the whole operation: Sofia Meduric and Khush Patel. This term each committee has strived to complete at least one task/ initiative.

Academic committee has created an online school newspaper which has weekly news updates and notices for students as well as quizzes and riddles. The link to this website was sent to all students via email.

Mana Horomaka committee has worked with the Hub Hornby to make a display for the mall for Chch pride week. This showcased some amazing anonymous stories from our students about their LGBTQIA+ journey.

Culture committee has worked hard to improve and update our cultural greetings and phrases which get circulated on the TV’s around the school.

Sports Committee ran a massively successful sports day where different sports games were held at interval and lunch, this initiative will look to continue through the year. They are also looking at redesigning the hoodies which all HHS sports team members wear.

Arts Committee has helped out with the pride week display and face painting for athletics day.

A brilliant start to the year and I am very excited to see what other awesome initiatives and events our prefect group can organise this year.
