Tieke Dean's Report

Liisa Laycock —

Kia Ora, Talofa, Malo E Lelei, Kia Orana, Kamusta, Hei. The start of the year has continued to be a mammoth task but as we settle in and adjust to our new surroundings many an interesting learning journey is emerging for our tamariki.

It’s been great to take the time to visit the various classes in Tieke and experience first-hand the amazing learning that has been happening.

Wānanga time remains the focus for building relationships and routines, exploring aspects such as wellbeing, goal setting, Kiwi Kaha programmes for our Year 7s, STARS mentoring for our Year 9s and Kapa haka for all interested.

Hurumanu continues in a variety of contexts with students learning how to make biltong, learning about colour and how to use this effectively in design, and the ‘Wonder’ of the human body just to mention a few!

Athletics day was a fun filled but exhausting day where students ran, hopped, jumped, and threw. Congratulations to our competitive students who worked towards beating personal bests and to our non-competitive students who worked towards earning points for our Kāhui. As I write this we sit with baited breath for the final results.....

Whilst term continues, we gear up for the Arts Kete where students are able to select a topic offered by learning advisors and complete a 3 week intensive course around their chosen interest. With options on offer such as dance, STEAM, print making, sphero art, and many more. I wish I could opt in a number of them and create too!

We have a few key items coming up for our Kāhui over the next couple of weeks which you may wish to add to your calendar.

Thursday 12th March - Wānanga BBQ 5.00 @ school

Friday 13th March - Colour Your Day Mufti

Thursday 19th March - Year 8 vaccination here at school

Thursday 26th March - STARs Day Out Year 9 for Tiēke

In addition, a reminder that school starts at 8.30am and it is an expectation that all students are during form time.

Please contact the school office if there is an absence or your child is away from school.

If you or your learner are concerned or have an issue that has arisen at school that you would like to discuss, it is important that you first contact your learner’s Wānanga advisor through email or a call to school. If you feel you require further clarification or support then please contact me (dean) and then Mr Simon Scott (Year 7&8) or Mr Jack Goodfellow (Year 9). We thank you for the continued support from whānau in keeping the consistency going between home and school and see it as invaluable for the success of your learner.

We look forward to seeing you for a sausage or two!
