Year 7-9 Mōhua Dean's Report

Terry Mitchell —

Kia ora whānau, It seems ridiculous to think that we are already in the third week of our last term of the year, especially when you consider that we effectively only have eight weeks this term.

One of the most important things we are currently working on is our end-of-year assessments which include:

  • Year 7-10 Maths and Reading PATs: These are assessments of our learners’ abilities in these two core subjects, and are a repeat of the assessments they took at the beginning of the year. This gives us an opportunity to compare our students’ abilities against where they were at the beginning of the year, and also against those of other students at the same year level across the country. Most students completed these assessments in Week 2 of this term.

  • Year 7-10 e-asTTle Writing Assessments: In much the same way as the Maths and Reading PATs, this assessment shows us the progress the students have made since the Writing assessment they undertook at the beginning of the year. This assessment is completed in Week 3 of the term.

  • Year 7-8 e-asTTle Reading and Maths: In addition to the above assessments, the Year 7 and Year 8 students also complete a series of at least two assessments for both Reading and Maths during Week 4 and 5 of Term 3.

These end-of-year assessments are also useful tools to support our decisions when we select our student prize-winners for 2022.

Ngā mihi
