Positive Behaviour for Learning - PB4L

Chelsea Birtch —

Kia ora koutou and welcome back to 2022.

As you may know, Hornby High School is a PB4L school.

"Positive Behaviour for Learning or PB4L initiatives help parents, whānau, teachers, early childhood centres, and schools address positive behaviour to help improve children's well-being, and increase educational achievement. By strengthening relationships and creating more positive home and school environments, we remove barriers to engagement and improve students' chances to achieve at school and beyond. PB4L is a long-term, systematic approach involving ten initiatives. These include whole-school change initiatives, targeted group programmes, and individual student support services". (Ministry of Education, TKI).

Our kura has been part of the PB4L initiative since 2011 with our official launch in 2013. Tamariki and kaiako engage in daily practices which improve the learning, wellbeing, and behaviour, within our school. One of our 2022 goals is to make our PB4L practices more accessible and visible for whānau, this includes sharing updates through the newsletter and Facebook page. Our four school values, or CARR values, are the pillars which hold up our kura; Commitment, Achievement, Resilience, and Respect. We encourage and support students to live those values in and outside of school. We encourage you to ask your learners about the incentives which they are receiving at school, our CARR card stamps and the CARR postcards that get mailed to your home. Keep an eye out for the next newsletter which will explain our rewards programme in more detail!
