Year 12 Dean's Report

Chris McLaren —

Talofa lava, Kia ora, Salaam Alaikum, Mālō e lelei, Bula, Nǐ hǎo, Namaste, Kumusta, Xin chào. The term is flying by and it is really important for students to track their progress and for whānau to know how their young adult is doing academically at school.

If you do not have access to the parent portal, please contact the school so that you can monitor your young person’s academic progress and attendance.

Lateness
This is a major issue, please ensure your young person is at school by 8.25am every school day. Being on time to work is a very important skill and at present their job is to learn so the expectation is that they are here for Dean’s and form time, in correct uniform, and learning ready.

Pacifica Career Expo at ARA
Mrs Climo and I took a wonderful group of students to the career expo held at ARA for Pacific Island students. It was a worthwhile outing and all students had the opportunity to talk to experts and get information for their future selves. Congratulations to Mara for winning the prize for building a structure that could hold the most weight and Lavisha won some tickets to the rugby by answering a series of questions.

Congratulations to Mala for being part of the Hornby Senior A Rugby Team that won the cup on Saturday. Mala has also been selected for the Under 21 Ellesmere team and the Canterbury Under 20 squad and he will be going to Burnham for a 3 day training camp. We wish him the best. Congratulations also to Darnell. She is part of the City Of Christchurch Cadet Unit which is travelling to Australia for a Chief Of Army Competition, they will be competing against several other teams. She will be away for a week of the July holidays competing so best of luck to her and the team.

Thank you to all the students from Year 12 that helped out at the Year 10 camp at Boyle River. The cooks and the student leaders were amazing and I appreciate your willingness to serve your school in this way.

Academic Progress
Some students are concerned that they don’t have many credits even though we are more than halfway through the academic year. I am monitoring each student’s progress and when I have concerns about them, I do contact home. It is important that every student is 'achieving' more than they are 'not achieving' as if the ratio of not achieved is higher than achieved then this is not a good sign. Continue to encourage your young adult to be learning ready and to keep up with their learning. If your young person has a job out of school, they need to balance this with their learning.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me.

Ngā mihi
