Riroriro Dean's Report

Albert Wilson —

Hello to you all. Wow! What a busy few weeks it has been in the Riroriro kāhui.

Learners have been busy working in Hurumanu and Wānanga, working on a whole range of amazing things. If you are still not aware of the difference between these two, here is a quick blurb on them.

Wānanga - This is all about connections, creating an environment about our learners well being and learning. Students have Wānanga for 7 hours a week with their Wānanga/Learning advisors.

Hurumanu - Where traditionally students would sit through maths, English, science and social studies all separately, Hurumanu allows for all those subjects to combine to create a blended/connected curriculum. Hurumanu are set up as themes and these themes combine two curriculum areas. For example, Power to the People in Year 9 combines English and Social Studies. Students rotate Hurumanu after 13 weeks in Year 9 and each term in Year 7 and 8.

House Leaders - Congratulations to Lasa and Sofia (both Year 9) for being selected as our Junior Riroriro House Leaders. Riroriro house had the most applicants out of any other kāhui. With house leaders now appointed, house assemblies and meetings will take place in the lead up to athletics day. Also just a reminder, that Riroriro house colour is blue.

Lateness - Please advise the school if your child will be late to school. We have a number of students arriving late without a note or contact from home. I have advised our kāhui about lateness detentions.  We have had a few students arriving late to class after breaks, if students are late 3 times in a week they will have lunch detention with me. Continually late students can be placed on attendance cards and a family meeting will need to take place.

Uniform - Non regulation socks are becoming a thing at the moment. Please remind your children that plain black or dark navy blue socks are to be worn. There are branded socks which look really nice but are not part of school uniform. Also a reminder to please give your child a note if they are going to be wearing non regulation uniform so I can give them a uniform pass.

Chromebooks - It is great to see so many learners using their devices. Please if you have not already, chromebooks are a key part of your child's stationery list. If you would like more information about chromebooks, please contact your child's learning advisor.

If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting, please contact me. I would love to meet you all. Thank you for your time.
