End of Year Arrangements

This is a busy time of year as seniors complete their internal assessment and prepare for external examinations. The junior school is also on a special programme of Passion Projects at the end of the term. Here is a summary of events covering the next few weeks.

Seniors Signing Out – Monday 5th November

Senior students who are leaving school will sign out after 1.20pm on Monday 5th November. Students in years 9-12 who will be returning in 2019 will be released from school at 1.20pm. This will be a normal day for years 7 & 8, finishing at 3.00pm

Senior Prizegiving – Monday 5th November

A very warm welcome is extended to all parents and family to attend the Senior Prizegiving to be held on Monday 5th November in the Auditorium. Please be seated by 7.15pm for the 7.30pm start. Family of Year 13 students and prize winners are invited to supper in the Learning Commons following the ceremony.

Leavers’ Assembly – Tuesday 6th November

Seniors – Arrive by 9.30am for the Leavers’ Assembly which starts at 9.40am. This assembly is for Years 9-13 only. Following this assembly all seniors will be dismissed to start study leave. There will be a brief meeting for students sitting NCEA exams to get their entrance slips and information. We expect all senior students to be dismissed from school by 11am. NCEA exams begin on Thursday 8th November.

Juniors Years 7-10 – This is a normal day starting at 8.30am and finishing at 3pm

Many senior students will be required to return to school in the following weeks to study for exams or to complete internal assessment. Many students will wish to do this anyway and are very welcome and should make arrangements with the teachers concerned. Deans will be in touch with families where we require students to return to school.

Passion Projects

For the last four weeks of Term 4 all Year 7-10 students will be on a special programme of ‘Passion Project’ learning. This is where, with careful guidance, students in small groups are given the opportunity to explore or develop skills in something they are really interested or ‘passionate’ about. Students and parents will hear more about this programme over the next couple of weeks.

The Passion Project Learning programme is an opportunity for teachers and students to explore teaching and learning in different ways. In the last few years we have found the ‘Project Based Learning’ programme to be a productive and successful way to end the school year.

The passion projects will run alongside the normal teaching programme from 12 November to 6 December and will take place on Monday afternoons and all day Thursdays. Students will start school at 9.30am on Thursdays during this time.

Junior Reports

When prepared at the end of term, reports for junior students will be published on KAMAR and available to parents through the parent portal. An email will be sent to parents when the reports are ready. Paper copies will be printed and posted on request.
