Hornby High School had 28 Year 9 and 10 students who participated in a competition run by Canterbury League. They played against a variety school teams, including St Thomas of Canterbury College, Shirley Boys High, Linwood High, and Haeata.

Our players showed commitment, resilience and passion throughout the competition. Rugby League is well supported here at school and whilst there is no mid week school based competition available to players, we know many of our students are actively involved in club rugby league.

Many of our students play for The Hornby Panthers and have gone on to perform with merit at club level and gain representative honours at Canterbury, South Island (Scorpions), and higher levels. 

A number of our junior students at the Year 7 and 8 level are also showing great potential in League. We would like to acknowledge the ongoing support we receive from Corey Lawrie, Jayton Lawrie and Nico Ruri.
