MERE RANG
Mere Rang was organised by the Hornby High School Indian and Indo-Fijian Group.
The exquisite Mere Rang event was held on the 30th of August at Hornby High School from 6:30p.m. With a packed auditorium, the Hornby High School Indian and Indo-Fijian Group were ready to share their culture with the Hornby Community. Cluster schools like Hornby Primary, South Hornby and Wigram Primary were all present and performing with the graceful help of Mrs. Deepshika. Each Bollywood group from other schools demonstrated the clear message of Indian and Indo-Fijian culture through dances.
However, it didn’t stop there! Students from our school and the Hornby High School Indian and Indo-Fijian Group performed and enlightened the audience. At the start of our night, we have the four girls who introduced Indian performance at Hornby High School last year: Riansha Kumar, Loreen Chandra, Esha Menon and Rinaz Ali. Then, Bollywood Girls Loreen Chandra and Mayesa Naaz danced to a classic Bollywood song. Following this, Mrs. Mitesh and her daughter performed a Fusion Folk dance that kept the audience in awe. Desi Boys then took to the stage; Anantya Poudel and Sahish Kumar energised the audience with the help of Mrs. Mitesh. The Canterbury Gurukool performed, with the help of Archna, a very heart-warming and emotional dance that reminds Indians and Indo-Fijians of our history while educating others. From the Fijian Meke performance, we had Riansha Kumar, Loreen Chandra, Mayesa Naaz, Esha Menon and Rinaz Ali. This performance brought Indo-Fijians importance to our event and community. Closing off our event, we had the Prasad Girls performance with Tayla Prasad and Risha Prasad. They finished with a bang!
Throughout the event there were moments of joy, remembrance and our culture were shared. Food like Samosas, Butter Chicken, Bhajia and Palau, what we call home was on sale. Our talented henna artist Natasha Lal delicately designed Indian patterns on the audience's hands. Also, homemade masala chai was for free and moving fast. Also, a Sari competition was held to see who could put on a sari the fastest. We had many participants interested in learning to wrap a sari. This event helped the Hornby High School Indian and Indo-Fijian Group highlight the cultures in our Hornby community while bringing everyone together. Through this event, we celebrated the differences and similarities that make our Indian and Indo-Fijian culture what it is today.
Without the help of Hornby Primary, South Hornby, Wigram Primary and Mrs. Deepshika this event would not be highlighted in our Hornby community. Thank you to Tita Jo and Mrs. Wheeler for helping organise this event and make it possible. Mrs. Mitesh with her unconditional support and talent, helped our young performers represent their culture. With the help of the AV Club and Mr. Carter at Hornby High School, we were able to film the event and capture important moments. Thank you to the prefect team and all the teachers who helped during the event. The Hornby High School Indian and Indo-Fijian Group extends sincere gratitude to the community and audience for their support, making the night a memorable one.
See you next year!
