Coast to Coast - Mrs Hastie

Patricia Hastie —

Ten months ago I started training for the Coast to Coast Longest Day. This involves running, cycling, and kayaking, 243km from Kumara beach on the West Coast, to New Brighton beach in Christchurch, in one day!

My training wasn't without it's challenges, having a bike crash last winter, getting my kayak stuck on a rock in the Waimakariri river in January, and having to say 'no' to lots of fun social times while keeping focused on my goal.
On Saturday, 11th of February, I was able to bring all my hard work together and complete the Coast to Coast Longest Day. It was a tough day out with headwinds on the bike and in the kayak, and an unusually low river adding over an hour to my normal paddle time. But the sun shone and I avoided any trouble to complete this race in just under 16 hours. This placed me 1st in the Veteran Women category. I was thrilled with this result.
