Year 7-9 Mōhua Dean's Report

Terry Mitchell —

Kia ora e te whānau. We are well into Term 2 already, and I’ve been telling the students in Mōhua that Terms 2 and 3 are our “knuckle down” terms, where we get most of the work done for the year. In our weekly hui recently I have been talking a lot about students completing their tasks to their personal best. This means working hard to be better every time rather than trying to be better than someone else.

Achievement

I’ve also been focusing on our school value of Achievement. Last term one of our Year 7/8 Hurumanu classes came up with a list of what we need to do in order to achieve success:

  1. We will always work hard even if the work is difficult.

  2. We will always focus on our work when we are in class.

  3. We will always aim for our personal best.

  4. We will always do our best to achieve our goals.

  5. We will always complete our work on time, to the best of our ability.

PE Uniforms

I have also been having a blitz on PE uniforms, as a number of students have been flouting the rules recently. So everyone is clear, these are the rules about wearing PE uniforms:

  • Hornby High School PE uniform is “regulation navy t-shirt (with logo) and navy shorts”

  • A teacher may allow students to wear leggings under their shorts, but never instead of them.

  • If a student has any temporary exceptions (e.g. lost item) they should bring suitable alternatives and a note from home to me at the start of the day for a Uniform Exemption slip.

  • If students have PE or sport at the end of the day they may wear their correct PE uniform home. If they don’t have the correct PE uniform they must change back into their normal uniform to go home.

  • If students have PE or sport in Period 1 they may wear their correct PE uniform to school. They must then change back into their normal uniform after PE.

  • Year 7/8 students are allowed to wear their correct PE uniform for the whole day on Fridays as they have 2 hours of Sport in the afternoon.

  • Any non-compliance will result in consequences e.g. lunchtime detention.
