Prefect's Report

Shardey Harris/Lachlan Hickford —

Term 3 has come around really quickly and there are lots of exciting things to look forward to!

Next Steps Camp

This week the Year 12 cohort will be venturing off to the Next Steps Leadership Camp at Blue Skies. For 3 days, they will engage in a range of activities that will push them outside their comfort zones and enable them to gain the knowledge and skills required for their next steps in life. For some, this may be moving in to full-time employment, enrolling into courses, or coming back to complete Year 13 and seek further leadership opportunities. From experience, we know that this camp has helped so many students to become more confident and build stronger connections with their peers.

The prefect team will be heading out on the first day of camp. Four members of our team will get to sit in the hot seat and answer some questions from the students to give them some insight on what it is like to be a leader.

A huge thank you to Mr Daines, Mr Kane, Ms Taylor, the hospitality crew, and the wonderful deans who make this possible for the students every year. We hope that this years group of Year 12 students will enjoy the camp just as much as last year's group of students did.

Senior Assessment week

Students in Year 11 - 13 are already preparing and putting in the extra hours as we lead up to Senior Assessment week. Throughout this time, it can be very stressful and overwhelming for students, especially for those who are sitting their mock exams. But the most important thing for students to remember is to just be confident and try your best. If you know that you have done all you can to produce your best work, then you can still walk away with the sense of achievement and satisfaction.

Feel free to book an appointment with Mrs Kavanagh, or speak to someone you trust if things are becoming too overwhelming for you because your wellbeing should be the number one priority.

Good luck to you all!

International Foods Day

Coming up this term, the Prefect team will also be running the International Foods Festival.

We will be hosting an evening full of cultural performances and cuisines in Te Pae Rewa (The Learning Commons) on Thursday, 12th September. If you or anyone you know would like to run a stall on the evening please contact Mrs Wheeler on 021 405 583.

It will also be a mufti day for the students at school that day, so we encourage them all to come dressed in something appropriate to their culture.

We will have more information available about this soon.

New Kahui Buildings

Towards the end of the term, the second stage of the school’s re-development will be completed. In week 9,  we will move into the new Kahui buildings that will be the centre of learning for our kura. This is the beginning of a lot of change for the Hornby whānau and it is a very exciting time ahead.

We hope that you all have a wonderful term, please make sure you keep warm and stay hydrated!!
