Gateway - 2019

Mrs Linda Barnett —

Gateway has been a successful year for our students with most attaining their goals to ensure a great start toward their future.

Our 28 students managed to obtain an average of 33 credits between them within their industry career choice.

Brittney received the Gateway Trophy for 1st in class for 2019. Brittney managed to complete and pass every unit of work available to her, and was committed to gain as much as she could from her Gateway course to attain success in securing a position in her career pathway.

The career options selected this year by our students included: retail customer service, police, building, accounting, youth aid, IT – programming/design, nursing, hairdressing, tourism – hotel, linesman, mechanic, hospitality, childcare, and sports coaching.

The opportunity to be part of our health and safety course and gain their first aid certificate was a plus for helping gain employment.

Many of our Gateway students were able to complete a Level 3 course in team work, which will help them toward their career goals. Some of our Level 3 students took on a further course for health and safety, in hazards and risk management, to further their knowledge and prepare themselves for the workforce.

We must thank all the businesses and organisations who have supported our Gateway programme this year. They provided work placements for our students to “test drive” their career choice and help them prepare for the real world of work. Without them our Gateway programme would not exist. Thanks to The Warehouse, Leighs Construction, Woodcote Retirement Village, Black Suede House of Hair, Mitre 10 Hornby, Independent Line Services, Sudima Hotel, Kidsfirst Kindergarten – Wigram, Hornby, and Hei Hei, AA Carmen Road, Jade Software, and NZ Institute of Sport.
