Kana Shedlock-Whiu —

Hornby High School is proud to announce that we have four competitive athletes who are participating at the New Zealand Secondary Athletics Nationals held in Wellington, from the 6th to the 8th December, 2019.

Adi, Tevita, Tyler and Peteli have been given the opportunity to get specialised coaching from some of New Zealands best and an Olympic athlete from Australia on Wednesday afternoons, preparing themselves for each event.  We thank Mr Hilliard for all his hard work, motivating, supporting, and sharing his techniques.

We had 8 students travel to Nelson to compete in the Secondary Schools Competition. In near perfect conditions on Saturday Adi won the Under 16 Girls Discus whilst Lenora finished 4th in the same event.

Junior finished 2nd in the Under 16 Boys' Javelin.

Peteli threw a personal best to win the Under 15 Boys' Javelin.

Christina also threw a personal best to finish 4th in the Under 19 Girls' Javelin.

After having to wait all day Presayus finished 8th in the Under 15 Girls' Javelin while Caleb finished his 800 metres in 9th place.

On Sunday morning Peteli finished 3rd in the Under 15 Boys' Shot Put. Adi duly stepped up to the challenge and won the Under 16 Girls' Javelin with the last throw of the competition.

Jordana threw a personal best to finish 8th in the Under 19 Girls' Discus.

This team was an excellent group of students to go away with and they have produced the best results for Hornby High School for a very long time.

Thank you to Mrs Clemence for travelling with and supporting the team.
