Year 10-12 Mōhua Dean's Report

Phil Daines —

Kia ora koutou. It is a pleasure to be writing this report as the new Dean of Years 10, 11, and 12, Mōhua students. The previous Dean, Mrs Laurie Tafau, took up an Assistant Principal position within the school, and I have taken over the Dean position as of 24th May.

It has been a busy two weeks for me, as I have been away for six of those days with the Year 12 and 13 Outdoor Education classes, tramping up in the mountains near Craigieburn and Lewis Pass. However I have been making it my priority to get around all of the Mōhua Year 10/11 Wānanga classes and Year 12 Form classes to get to know the students. There are still some faces I can’t put names to, but I am almost there! One positive thing I have noticed is how settled the classes are, with students focused on their work and showing the Hornby High School CARR values consistently. It is really nice to see, and is something that a number of teachers have commented on to me.

Coming up on the horizon is the Year 10 camp, which is on Tuesday 15th to Friday 18th of June for Year 10 Mōhua students. I will be at the camp along with the students, so I look forward to getting to know them even more. I have attended many Hornby High School Year 10 camps, and always enjoy my time there, as I hope the students do too. Even though there is a chance of rain and cold, with it being winter now, I would like them all to focus on the positives of camp - lots of fun, a warm lodge, beautiful native flora and fauna, and amazing instructors.

If you have any questions about camp, or anything else, please don’t hesitate to contact me: da@hornby.school.nz or (03) 349 5396 ext. 923.

Ngā mihi nui
