Welcome back to the chillier side of Term 3, maybe even laced with a little bit of snow! This term we see a creative side to our students with Arts kete just beginning to gain momentum. Tamariki have the opportunity to channel their creative side to construct, create and imaginate in an area that they are interested in. Working alongside their peers, and potentially a different wānanga teacher, many a creative plan has been made and ideas afoot on how to bring it to fruition. I say – watch this space!  Reading Plus and Lexia continue at full pace with many students involved seeing the benefits and progress in their reading. Whānau may have seen a certificate or two also.

As the days remain cooler, a reminder again that school jackets and jerseys can be worn.  We encourage students to be prepared for the chill and suggest if a jacket or jersey is an issue please contact your child’s wānanga teacher.   A mention also around school shoes. These are to be leather lace ups. There seem to be a few rough sports shoes and hi tops that are creeping into school in the morning. These are not suitable, not part of our formal school uniform. If they are needing to wear these as school shoes then a note is needed for a uniform pass.  If it is a bigger concern then once again please contact your wānanga teacher.  We are getting better at remembering that school starts at 8.40 and it is an expectation that all students are on time. CARR values are evident in and around the kāhui and we are so proud of the efforts our learners are making!  If your tamariki is absent from school, please contact the school office via phone call, text or email.

If there are concerns or an issue has arisen at school that you would like to discuss, it is important that you contact your child’s wānanga advisor through email or a call to school as they are your first port of call. If you feel you require further clarification or support after you have spoken with them, then please contact me (Dean) and then Mrs Karen Wheeler. We thank you for the continued support from whānau in keeping this consistency going between home and school and see it as invaluable for the success of our learners here at Hornby High School.Stay warm out there.
