Year 10-12 Tīeke Dean's Report

Oscar Richardson —

Kia Ora Koutou. Wow, it's already week seven. The past seven weeks have been super busy and have gone fast. By now our ākonga (students) are well into the swing of things, working on assessments and some even gaining credits.

Since our last newsletter Hornby High School has had athletics day which was a huge success. This was the first main activity of the year in which the whole school could come together and have an inter-kāhui competition. It was amazing to see everyone cheering on their classmates, pushing themselves to achieve success and some of our seniors who take PE were able to gain credits. Tīeke Kāhui came in second place with a total number of 4844 points, Mōhua in third place with 4502, and Riroriro taking out the win with 5480. Tīeke’s strength was long distance running. A huge congratulations to everyone who participated.

We also celebrated our 2020 academic success with an Academic honours assembly. Students were awarded certificates, badges, and ties, that related to their level of achievement. Once again it was amazing to see so many of our learners gaining endorsements, even more so considering the impact of Covid 19. Let's continue this high level of achievement for 2021.

On the 13th of March Hornby High School students participated in Polyfest 2021. Our students have worked so hard over the term and it was amazing to see all their hard work pay off. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Coming up in the calendar we have parent teacher conferences on the 25th of March. It would be great to see you all there. Following that we also have the easter break running from the 2nd - 6th of April with school starting back on the Wednesday.

Just a reminder to our whānau (family) that our students can not sign themselves out and leave school. If any child needs to leave, their guardian needs to ring or email the school. Along with this, if your child is away please contact the school in the morning.

To our students, please continue to be organised, respectful and keep working hard. Be learning ready with your device and charger, clean shaven faces, no rings, and correct uniform. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Ngā mihi
