Yrs 7 - 9 Deans Report - Tīeke

Liisa Callard —

Kia Ora, Talofa, Malo E Lelei, Kia Orana, Kamusta, Hei Haere Mai, Welcome Welcome to whatever 2022 has in store for us!

Just over 2 weeks down and what an incredible start to the term although it is looking slightly different than our start last year! It’s been great to see our tamariki settle back into the swing of things and our ‘newbies’ find their feet within their learning spaces. I have been proud of their ability to adapt to the new normal not only of routines and expectations, CARR values and changing wānanga, but also that of wearing masks in and around our kura. It has at times been challenging but if the last 2 years have taught us anything it is how to be flexible and adapt.

Many of you may also be aware that this year looks a little different for me as well. Or more to the point sounds a little different having tied the knot at Christmas. Lk has become Cd and Miss Laycock has become Mrs Callard. My email is now cd@hornby.school.nz and I am sure I will get used to recognising my name!

As we roll into the term, a reminder that all stationery, including chrome books should be at school to support learning. This is doubly important as we will begin the dreaded testing weeks soon and the ever present reality of online learning is never far away. If you find you are yet to do this or you have a concern or general enquiry, your child’s wānanga teacher should be your first port of call and they will be able to assist you. They are also your first port of call if you need to discuss any incidents of concern.

Additionally, our school uniform, including pe gear: For a clearer picture on uniform, jewellery, and hair, please see the link included. We are trying to get footwear and socks right so making yourself familiar with these expectations would be helpful.

Our Year 7’s have begun our KiwiKaha programme where they discover their inner skills and strengths and are shown ways in which to apply them to activities, tasks, and general day to day events. Our Year 9’s have begun their STARS programme which aims to solidify our CARR values through peer teaching.

Not to be left out, our Year 8’s are continuing to develop their leadership qualities and be role models for others through opportunities within our kura.
