Careers - Presbyterian Youth Group (PBYG) – Social Work 6th March

Louise Edmonds —

(Offering scholarships to Māori Students)

This week we had a presentation from the PBYG offering our students scholarships to enter the social work arena. The scholarships are to help with the first year of study. Kim, who introduced her team, told the students that she is CEO (Chief

Executive Officer) who worked her way up without any formal qualifications. She now wants to give back to her community with PBYG offering scholarships to our younger generation.

Two of our young guest speakers had recently graduated from University of Canterbury and the third speaker graduated from Ara Te Pukenga. They recounted their journeys on their wakas, which were all different, but ending up in the same space – helping vulnerable people in their community.

They also talked about just getting involved. If you love working with people, want to help and be a part of your community this area of work is rewarding.
