Year 10 Dean's Report

Rowena Clemence —

Kia ora. Talofa Lava and hello. I hope you are all enjoying the longer days of sunlight and the refreshing energy that spring brings. At this time of year, your children/our students take a close look into career opportunities and the subject areas that support future choices. Recently Barbara Climo, head of careers, and I have been working with year 10 students to give them insight on what to expect next year as they head into year 11.

There will be many of you with questions about options for your tamariki. If you need to know more information about particular courses that link into the career pathways, please email Barbara Climo : cl@hornby.school.nz or call her on 349 5396 (ext. 885). If you have questions that relate particularly to next year subject options please email or call me (details below).

REMINDERS:

Lateness: A small number of students are letting themselves and the year 10 cohort down. Students need to be aware that lateness has a negative impact on their learning and the learning of others. Students miss out on vital information that is shared at the beginning of a lesson (including form time at the beginning of the day). Students are expected to be at school by 8:30am everyday!

Please make sure your children are scheduling a few hours every evening to study for assessments in class (summarising notes, making flash cards, repetitive reading). When exams occur next term it is expected that students are in full school uniform and have all equipment required: Chromebook, black and/or blue pen, pencil, eraser, ruler (scientific calculator for maths and science). This is practice for what it feels like in Year 11 and helps us find your tamariki’s next steps in preparation for NCEA.

Hope you are well. If you wish to contact me, please ring the school or send an email: ce@hornby.school.nz.
