Winter has left and Summer is coming! Huge congratulations to all the Hornby High School winter sports teams.

Winter Sports finished on a high. Congratulations to the following teams and their achievements.

● Junior girls Netball finished 1st place - Junior Division 3B

● Badminton Senior girls finished 2nd place - Division 2

● Basketball Intermediate finished 1st place - Division 2, Section 4

● Basketball Year 9 Juniors finished 1st place, Division 2, Section 2

● Thomson Senior Boys finished 2nd place - Lincoln University Thomson Cup, Division 2

Huge congratulations to our Thomson Senior Boys Basketball team coached by Jimmy Williamson.  Finishing the season off as Runner Ups in the Lincoln University Thomson Cup Competition.  They have not received the results they wanted, they received something much better.   A stepping stone to the future ahead “Pure” Play to win, “Leadership” Train to win”

South Island Secondary Winter Tournament week

This year we have added to the participation of attending Winter Tournament Week.  The Senior Football team travelled to Nelson to compete at the Jim Wishart Tournament. We hope they are enjoying their time away and making plenty of memories. The Senior boys Thomson Basketball team are yet again to compete another year at the “A "Premiership Qualified Regionals. If they finish in the top 4 ranks they will qualify for Nationals held in Palmerston North - Monday 24th September - Thursday 28th September, 2023.  Badminton and Chess were held in Christchurch.  We have just finished up at the Canterbury Secondary Schools Badminton tournament, which has been running over the last 2 days.  Hornby High School was well represented, Reiya N and Lhysette P were runners up in the Girls doubles, and Shiela Y was runner up in the Girls singles.  Wiari T and John RL also put up a good fight in the Boys doubles.  The rest of the results from the singles yesterday are as follows:

Year 12 Reiya N - 3 games 1 win

Year 13 Lauren A - 3 games 1 win

Year 12 Janel D - 3 games 1 win

Year 11 Lhysette P - 3 games 1 win

Year 12 Shiela Y - won all 3 games, lost final, Runner Up 

Year 10 Aaron S - 5 games, 2 wins


Year 9 - 13 Summer Sports - Term 4

Archery, Bowls, Cricket, Disability Sports, Futsal, Golf, Hockey (summer), Indoor Football, Indoor Netball, Softball, Surfing, Tennis, Ten Pin Bowling, Touch, Volleyball, Water Polo.

Summer Sports (6 playing days), commencing;

Volleyball commencing - Monday 9th October

All other sports commencing - Wednesday 11th October

Concludes Wednesday 1st November (Seniors) Wednesday 15th November (Juniors) 

NOTE: If you want to register for Summer Sports, registration closes Wednesday 13th August.  

At Hornby High School we are always looking for coaches, managers, supervisors. We are super lucky and grateful to have a great support crew within our Sports Department here at Hornby High School. I would like to thank all our coaches, staff and volunteers for your support, time and effort you put into our sport teams.
