Head Prefect's Report

Shardey Harris/Lachlan Hickford —

Term 3 is coming to an end, but what a term it has been!

International Foods Festival:

On Friday, September 12th we held our 3rd International Foods Festival!! We celebrated the diverse range of cultures we have here in our community, and students were asked to come in mufti attire appropriate to their culture. Later on that evening, we hosted the community for a night full of cuisines and cultural performances. It was a huge success and a great atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this event!

Tongan and Māori Language Weeks:

In the last two weeks, we have also celebrated Uike Kātoanga'i 'o e Lea Faka-Tonga and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. It was great to see full participation from both the students and staff throughout both weeks for just giving it a go and embracing our beautiful Tongan and Māori languages.

Unplugged and UC Night:

In Week 7, the Year 13 music class and a couple of special guests from Year 11 and Year 12 had the honour of performing at the UC Arts Centre. It was a wonderful night full of astounding performances. We also did an “Unplugged” event in week 7 which was primarily for the Year 13 students finishing off our solo performances. This was a very special night as it was our last full show together. Everyone performed extremely well and it was a great way to end our Music programme for the year.

But still to come to this term…..

Fia Fia Night:

This Thursday, Hornby High School is hosting the Uru Mānuka Fia Fia Night for the local kindergarten and primary schools across the cluster. We look forward to this event every year, and the prefect team cannot wait to go watch another year of such amazing performances!

Staff vs Year 13:

We started off the term with a game of dodgeball against the staff, unfortunately the staff came out victorious. Next week we will have a rematch playing dodgeball once again. It is always a pleasure to play sports against the teachers. There is always a great turn out from other staff and students which makes these events some of the most enjoyable that we run.

Kahui Opening:

This week the new Kahui buildings will also officially become our new spaces for learning. This is a very exciting time for Hornby High School as it marks a new stage of learning for the school. We are all looking forward to spending the last few weeks of the year in these wonderful new facilities. We hope that you get lots of rest over the next coming weeks and that you all have a wonderful and safe holiday! We will see you back and ready for the fourth and final term!!
