NZ Māori Rugby League Tournament award

Yarny in Year 13 a stand-out player at national League tournament

Playing for the Te Awa Kairangi 19's team in Rotorua over the Queen's Birthday weekend, Yarny in Year 13 received the 'Back of the Tournament' award as Best Back for the Te Awa Kairangi Team at the New Zealand Māori Rugby League Rangatahi Tournament.

The team played four games over the tournament. The first day saw games against Waikato Māori, and Pikiao Warriors, while on the 2nd day they played against Tuhoe and Nga Hau E Wha Ki Tamaki.

As with all 'over night successes', this recognition comes on the back of hard work over a long period of time. Yarny started playing league as a Junior and now plays Premier Reserves for the Burnham Chevaliers. This is his first year playing as a Senior. He plays either hooker, or winger, which is his preference. This was his first national tournament, and his first playing for Te Awa Kairangi.

Yarny enjoys a wide range of sports including Touch, League, and Athletics, and he enjoys representing his Whānau, Kura, and Club.

Yarny is a great citizen of our kura, where we work hard to allow every student to shine at their chosen pursuits. #manahoromaka #hornbypride Yarny!!!
