The National Secondary Schools Athletics were held at Newtown Park athletics track in Wellington from Friday December 6th to Sunday December 8th.

Hornby High School entered a team of four students into this competition. Despite the atrocious conditions all athletes performed creditably and now have gained a national ranking that they aim to improve in 2020.

Tyler Dempsey finished 39th in a field of 54 in the Senior Boys 100m. He was unlucky not to qualify for the quarter finals.

Peteli Fevaleaki finished 19th and 21st in the Junior Boys Javelin and Discus respectively.

Tevita Tatu finished 18th in the Senior Boys Shot Put.

Adi McGoon competed in the Senior Girls competition in three throwing events finishing 18th in the Discus, 16th in the Shot Put and 7th in the Javelin.

All students performed extremely well against the best athletes in New Zealand and should be proud of their efforts.
