Year 9 Dean's Report

Sarah Handley —

Kia Ora. What a wonderful start it has been to 2019 for our Year 9s. Students have settled well into their new timetables and seem to be enjoying the new freedom they have in their option choices.

I have had the chance to pop into a few classes and have been pleased to see the levels of engagement and effort our learners are putting into their work.

As always, we look to continue to encourage our learners to demonstrate their CARR values in all aspects of life at Hornby High School. Some ways to help your learners with this are to remind them to check that their uniforms are clean and correct and to bring all the equipment needed for learning, especially their chromebooks and chargers.

We are excited to be participating once again in the Graeme Dingle Foundation ‘Stars’ programme which will begin in the next few weeks. This program empowers our senior students to step into a leadership role and work alongside our Year 9’s to develop positive social skills. This will be kicking off with our 'Big Day Out' trip to the Groynes. Students will be encouraged to push themselves outside their comfort zones and take risks while participating in team building exercises, a high ropes course, and river raft building. The dates for the classes are:

Monday 25 February - 9Rn & 9Wd

Thursday 28 February - 9Ay & 9Lk
