2020 Sports

Kana Shedlock-Whiu —

What a challenging year this has been for everyone, Hornby High School included. Despite Covid-19, Hornby High School continued to be successful in its sporting endeavours.

With the support of Sport New Zealand and Canterbury Secondary Sport, we managed to enter regional sport tournaments with both junior and senior teams.

We are grateful to have such amazing coaches on board. Teachers and parents volunteering to support Hornby High School sport teams. Thank you.

Volleyball – Lenora Taotua-Lavea, Sofia Henderson (junior girls), Anna Pohatu, Rebecca Harris (senior girls), Andy Reid (junior boys), Vinnie Wallace, and Litiah Mataese (senior boys)

Basketball – Justin Hatcher, Mr Taylor (junior boys Blue), and Andy Reid (junior boys yellow), Ben Hawthorne, James Harris, and Emma Geldard (senior boys), Lenora Taotua-Lavea and Mrs Handley (junior girls), Rebecca Harris and Vicky Chandler (senior girls), Gators basketball Club and development basketball.

Congratulations to the following Hornby High School teams that have competed extremely well during the winter and summer sports competitions for 2020. They finished first place, qualifying for the next level in 2021: senior girls basketball, junior boys basketball yellow, junior boys futsal, junior boys touch, and junior boys volleyball.

A very special thank you to the Hornby High School fun run cheerleading squad behind the scene of the Kids Can Fun Run, promoting and advertising in the lead up to the fun run event. Jayton, Jorja, Spencer, Nadia, Sierra, and Sofia did a remarkable job. Well done team.

Farewell
It is with much sadness that we farewell James Harris who will not be joining us in 2021 to coach Hornby High School basketball next year. James has been a devoted, loyal coach and inspirational youth leader at Hornby High School and within the community. You will be missed James. Thank you for all your support and dedication to Hornby High School. We wish you all the best for you and your whānau.

Farewell to our Hornby High School Year 13 students who have been committed and shown dedication to Hornby High School sports. You have all shown passion and leadership skills. We wish you all the very best for the future.
