Year 12 Dean's Report

Albert Wilson —

Greetings to you all. There are only 3 more weeks of timetabled classes for our Year 12 cohort. However, many will still be in and out of school completing assessments or doing resubmissions with their teachers.

It will definitely be a sprint to the end for some, while others who are not sitting exams will get a chance for an early holiday. Close to ten of our cohort are moving on from Hornby High School. They all have plans to continue their study at Ara or S.I.T and for some they will transition into the workforce. I wish them all the best in their future and look forward to hearing how they get on. For the majority, their subjects have been selected, and they will prepare for their final year here in 2019. Exciting times ahead!

Prefect Interviews
Twenty Year 12 students were interviewed for 2019 prefects. What a talented, well spoken group of applicants. Each applicant was asked to bring an item that has either inspired or shaped them into the young person they are today. They were then asked a series of questions by the interview panel who were Mr Sutton (Principal), Mrs Wheeler (Deputy Principal) and me. The final decision will be made end of week 2 or early week 3. Head Prefects will be announced at Senior Prize giving.

Youth Parliament
Congratulations to Iris Taramai who was selected to attend Youth Parliament in 2019. Youth Parliament 2019 program provides an opportunity for young people from around Aotearoa, New Zealand to actively work and be heard on topics and issues about which they are passionate. Iris was interviewed by Labour's Wigram Electorate MP, Megan Woods and was selected after that. Iris will attend a two day event in Wellington next year.

Rugby League Achievement
Well done to Jordan Coleman who was awarded the Clausen- McKenzie Sportsman of the Year Trophy at the Canterbury Rugby League Junior Prize Giving. Jordan also represented the South Island Scorpions 17's team this year. A great achievement, and a big future ahead for this young man.

Peer Mentor Awards
In the first week of term, Shardey Harris went to Auckland to receive the Stars - Outstanding Contribution from a Peer Mentor Award supported by Sanitarium. This is to acknowledge the great contribution of Stars Peer Mentors who are making a significant difference in the lives of juniors in their school. Well done Shardey, we all appreciate the hard work you put into the role.
