Badminton

Warwick Werder —

Hornby High School entered two teams into the Canterbury Secondary Schools' badminton competition and 18 students into the individual competition. In total there were four days of intense competition and lots of tough games. We had the pleasure of playing in the newly constructed Zhu badminton centre.

The students representing Hornby High School showed huge commitment in their games; respect towards their opponents; and resilience when the games were getting difficult. Over the course of these four days I saw huge improvements in the way our students controlled the shuttle, and use of strategy in their game. We placed fourth in the boys' division and the girls' team placed 8th in the teams competition.

In the individual competitions we had a number of placings:

Lindley won the senior Singles competition, Shiela came runner up in the junior girls' singles, Sheena was runner up in the senior girls' plate, Khyle and Shiela won and Axle and Skyler, came runner up in the junior mixed doubles, Christian and Axle came runners up in the junior boys' doubles; Khyle and Jeff won the doubles plate competition. Lindley and Sheena won the mixed doubles.

The players in the competition were:

Rojan, Reige, Khyle, Axle, Christian, Jeff, Tristan, Greg, Lindley, Ryan, Lauren, Genica, Janel, Rieya, Shiela, Sykler, Sheena Mae, and Mae Rose.
