Ka ora, ka ako School Lunch Programme

Robin Sutton —

For those whānau new to Hornby High School, we are part of the school lunches programme ‘Ka ora, Ka ako’.

Funded by the Government, lunch is provided free to all students at the school. Our own kai time is usually around 10.40 in the morning, and students get together to share kai.

This programme comes at no cost to whānau. The food is prepared by our own cafe team from Ristretto, and as long as the team knows of any specific nutrition needs they work hard to make sure that every student gets the correct food. There is always plenty of food available for hungry young teens. The caterers must meet strict Ministry of Education nutrition guidelines, and their work is audited regularly by a team from the Ministry..

Students are not forced to eat this kai, and you are welcome to send lunch with your child if you prefer.
