GATEWAY 2021

Linda Barnett —

This year has been another successful year for Gateway. We had 25 students through the Gateway programme and we managed to end the year with a very successful NCEA credit pass rate. This has only been achieved with hard work and determination from our Gateway students.

Most of our Year 12 students are returning to school next year to complete their education. Many Year 13 students are off to University. One of our nursing students has been accepted into Ara to complete her pre health course and then move onto a nursing degree.

Bailey took on the challenge and passed all the Level 3 credits available to her before the end of Term 3. This dedication earned her the Gateway Trophy for 1st in class in gateway this year.

One of our students entered the world of IT with their work placement at Jade Software, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Most passed their 'Red Shirts in School' course, giving them the experience of retail and customer service.

Other career choices were: real estate, photography, police, security, pastry chef, esol teacher, building, pilot, interior design, midwife, military, florist, social work, elderly care, plumber, IT design, and childcare.

We have these and most other career options available to our students who want to enrol with gateway for 2022.

We must thank all the businesses/organisations that have supported the Hornby High School
Gateway programme this year. We recognise that without them there would be less success for our students moving out into their chosen career pathways.
