Canterbury Secondary Schools Athletics

Ian Hilliard —

This year is the last time we will compete against each other in our existing Houses. A large number of students competed fiercely in the competitive section of events and produced some outstanding results.

As a result of this competition we sent our largest ever team to the Canterbury Secondary Schools Athletics which were held at the new Nga Puna Wai Athletics Stadium.

The team of 38 were very supportive of each other and as a result we had 24 students gain selection for the Finals.

At the finals we again shone and were well represented across 22 Events.

Final results at the end of the day meant that a strong team will be able to represent Hornby High School in Nelson at the South Island Secondary Schools event to be held on Saturday and Sunday (30 and 31 March).

Top three finishers were:
Adi McGoon - 1st in Discus and Javelin
Christina Fifita - 2nd in Javelin
Junior Laloata - 3rd in Javelin

4th Place:
Discus: Jordana Falconer, Lenora Taotua Lavea, K-Ci Newton Whare
Javelin: Presayus Faávae
Shot Put: Pateli Fevaleaki
800m: Caleb Deans
U19 Boys Team: Tyler Dempsey, Mala, McGoon, Frank Kitekeiaho, Kingston McIlroy

Well done to all our Athletes and thank you to all the parents for their support on the day.
