Progress Report & Learning Progress Meeting – Thursday 12th April 1-7pm
A Progress report for all students will be posted on the KAMAR portal during Week 10 at the start of April. The Progress Report gives a snapshot on how your child has started the school year. There will be an opportunity to meet with your child’s subject teachers on Thursday 12th April, 1-7pm in the last week of term. You will be emailed a letter explaining how to view the report and make bookings for the Learning Progress meetings.
KAMAR Parent Portal
Parents/Whanāu can access the school computer system (KAMAR) to check information about their child(ren). This includes attendance, reports, daily notices, term calendar, personal details, NCEA results and much more. Contact the office to be told your personal user name and password. Remember to keep this information secure.
Rebuild Update
Leighs Construction Ltd are doing a great job on our new ‘All of School’ building and new gymnasium. Both buildings are on track to be finished about Queen’s Birthday in the middle of Term 2. We plan to shift in at the end of term two and begin teaching in the new building from the start of Term 3. We will organise an opportunity for the community to see our new facilities early in Term 3.
There will be major room changes in the 9-13 part of the school (Yrs 7 & 8 will not be affected by these moves). Once we have moved into the new buildings and out of A and S Blocks, these blocks will be demolished and our three new Homebase ‘Kahui’ will be built. We confidently expect that our whole rebuild will be finished by the end of 2019.
Chromebooks
Thank you to all parents who have provided a chromebook or laptop for their student(s). We are very aware that many families have made a considerable sacrifice to equip their students and we are grateful. Being digitally connected is very important for students in the modern educational world and naturally we want the best opportunities for our Hornby students.
If you are still investigating the chromebook market, ask for our latest information sheet at the office (or ask Andrea to email you one). This gives advice on our preferred supplier and the best deals. We have retained about 30 chromebooks in school ownership for students to use in class when necessary, but we do rely on parents to provide for their children.
Spark Jump (Skinny) Broadband Deal
Chromebooks are most effective when they can be used at home too. If you need a cheap, effective broadband deal then come and talk to us at school. We can set you up with a Skinny Broadband account that costs only $10.00 for 30GB prepaid. It is very easy to set up and use and we have many families using this worthwhile scheme. See Mr Rogers to get your account set up.
