Year 10-12 Mōhua Dean's Report

Phil Daines —

Kia ora koutou. We are already more than half way through the last school term of 2021. The senior students have already started exam study leave, and the junior students only have a few weeks to go.

I would like to start by congratulating all of the Year 12 students who were selected as prefects for 2022. We have an amazing group of young people who are shaping up to be awesome leaders in our school, and I look forward to working closely with them over the next year. I must also mention the many students who applied but unfortunately missed out on gaining a prefect position. We had many strong applicants and only limited positions, so there were always going to be students who missed out. I hope these students can still show that they do not need a prefect badge to be leaders within the school.

Over the last few weeks I have been closely monitoring the progress of the Year 11 and 12 Mōhua students as they work towards their NCEA certificates. It was great to see how many achieved their Level One or Two certificates even before they left for external exams. This shows commitment to their learning. A number of these students also gained enough Merit and/or Excellence credits to gain a certificate endorsement, a great reward for their efforts. For those that didn’t quite get over the line, any external exams you have become vital to get the credits you require. Study hard and achieve your highest potential.

As I mentioned earlier, there are only a few weeks left for the junior students. I spoke to the Year 10’s in our weekly Mōhua Hui on Monday about the importance of remaining settled and focused on their learning for these next few weeks. The learning they are doing now will set them up for a positive start to NCEA next year. In some cases, there may be credits they can earn from unit or achievement standards that will give them a head start on the 80 credits they need to achieve Level One NCEA.

If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Ngā mihi nui.
