Katie Beer —

What a fantastic and vibrant year it has been in the ‘Whare toi whakaari’. We have had a lot to celebrate this year and 2018 definitely ended with a BANG!!

Three weeks ago 60 hugely enthusiastic juniors arrived full of excitement and ready to embark on our Musical Theatre passion project. We started with warm ups and script reading before we swiftly moved into auditions and casting. Then we blinked and before we knew it, we were putting on our show. Hours of hard work, dance practice, singing practice, learning lines and finding costumes all came together in our terrific 1920’s speakeasy!! All of the students worked tremendously hard in their roles whether it be a lead character or a vital ensemble member! We created a show that we were hugely proud of, and one that 'wowed' our audiences. A special mention goes to our two wonderful set and prop builders, Nick Lowry and Mike Beer who created our fantastic glitzy set and splurge guns. Both Nick and Mike work in the theatre industry and they gave their time freely to help us fulfill our vision for this production. Thank you!!

To our talented tribe, well done, we are so proud of all of you. Musical Theatre is really becoming a growing and popular culture at Hornby High School. We look forward to more musical adventures next year, I mean who doesn’t love a day where you burst into random song or dramatic monologue!
