Year 10 Dean's Report

Chris McLaren —

It is Tongan Language week so I will greet you in Tongan by saying Mālō e lelei.

Term 3 is coming to a close and it has been another intense term of learning and achievement. Thanks to all the wonderful students who are upholding our CARR values of Commitment, Achievement, Resilience and Respect. You are all fabulous.

It is fantastic when students are willing to take opportunities that are offered. In August,  10 young leaders attended the two day Limitless Conference in Christchurch. It was an amazing and inspiring experience for the students and myself.

An NCEA information evening was held recently and I would like to thank the students and caregivers who came along to find out more about how NCEA works. Subject option sheets need to be returned to me as soon as possible. All students need to select 6 subjects plus a spare. English and Maths are compulsory and I recommend one of the Science options. Some students will need to also take ESOL and their ESOL teacher will inform them of this. If you have misplaced your form, there are spare forms at the main office and the dean’s office.

Congratulations to year 10 boys who were part of the HHS Rugby League Team. They won this year’s trophy. They are: Jaedon Wellington, Sonny Avia, Mala McGoon, Jayton Lawrie, Tyler Dempsey, Vaione Saiki, Khan Halliday and Junior Tuliakiono. Fantastic game and attitude boys.

Congratulations also to Aaliyah Linton and Mya Newton Whare who are away representing HHS at the secondary school’s basketball tournament.

Sonny Avia was selected for the 2017 Under 15 Canterbury Country Rep Team

Plus Sophie Yale is standing as the student Board of Trustee’s Rep. Good Luck.

If your child is involved in anything that you would like me to share, please let me know as I really enjoy celebrating success stories.

If there are any concerns or questions you have, please feel free to contact me.
