Reports

Due to the big shift to our new buildings at the end of this term, we have changed our normal reporting schedule to provide time for teachers to make the move. Early this term we will issue a Junior School Values report (like the one at the end of Term 1) and about the middle of the term we will issue a full report for senior students. Then in Term 3 we will issue a full report for juniors. We will also hold another Learning Conference evening for parents and students to discuss progress. More details about this event will be issued nearer the time.

The KAMAR Parent Portal

Just a reminder that parents (and students) can check the KAMAR parent/ student portal at any time on any device. By logging on to the portal (https://web.kamar.hornby.school.nz) and then entering your student’s five digit user number and then either the student’s or the parent’s password, you should gain access. You can check attendance, daily notices, the term calendar, NCEA credits and personal details. Please call or email the office if you need help remembering your user number and password. On your smart phone or tablet you will need to install the KAMAR app (free) and add the URL to the settings. It is really very simple.

Chromebook Update

We appreciate the effort and sacrifice families are making to provide their children with chromebooks or laptops. These are vital learning tools in this digital age when so much of our students’ learning is supported by digital resources. It is one thing to have a chromebook, however it is only useful if it comes to school fully operational and charged each day. Please encourage your children to acquire these good habits so they are ready for learning each day.

Whilst the school has some chromebooks that students can use in class, we cannot supply all students. We will continue to offer cheaper chromebooks for sale to families as they become available.

Senior school digital device ownership levels are much lower than in the junior school. However a great deal of school work is now done digitally so we encourage senior students to buy a chromebook or laptop – it is difficult to keep up with the work if students are not digitally connected.

Affordable Internet Offer

We estimate that 80-90% of families in the Hornby area have broadband internet at home. However if broadband internet at home is beyond your budget, we can help. The Spark Jump programme offers a pre-pay broadband internet plan for $10.00 per 30GB of internet time. You don’t need a phone line as the modem is wireless. If this sounds helpful please contact Jon Rogers for more details or to sign up. You won’t find a cheaper deal.

Information Evening Tuesday 15 May at 7pm

The information Evening will focus on students entering Hornby High in Yrs 7 and 9. All families, regardless of the age of the student, are very welcome to attend our information evening on Tuesday 15th May in the auditorium at 7.00pm.

Enrolments 2019

From the start of 2019 Hornby High School will operate an enrolment zone. We are able to accept enrolments at any year level for 2019 from Monday 11 June. Full details of the enrolment process will be given at the Information Evening.
