School Crossing - Help keep our students safe.

Ruth Robertson —

The school crossing outside school on Waterloo Road is a busy spot at the end of the day.

We are currently working with the Christchurch City Council to improve the safety of this for our students.  There are a number of things that you can do as caregivers to help minimise the risks:

  • Please observe the speed limits and be vigilant while driving past the school.

  • Avoid doing u-turns in front of the school at peak times of the day. There have been a number of near misses over the past few weeks as the sight lines are not clear when there is a lot of traffic.

  • Do not park on the yellow lines. This blocks the view of the staff members who are on duty helping students cross the road at the end of the day.

  • Park further away and organise a meeting point with your child.

  • Keep the emergency vehicle accessways clear at all times. These spaces have signage displayed, please observe this request.

  • The parking area on the road outside the school is a 3 minute 'drop & go' area. Three minutes is only enough time to pull into the park, have your children enter the car and then drive off. When entering this area please pull forward as far as you can to allow others to pull in behind you.

  • Please do not pull up to the traffic island and come to a stop to allow your child to get in the car whilst blocking the road, this is extremely dangerous.

  • The staff car park is out of bounds and is not to be used for student drop off or pick up.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe.
