This is the third year we have had an 11-aside team at Hornby High School and this has been the youngest team with many players never having played full field hockey before.

As a mixed team, we had to play in a boys grade (despite requests to be moved to a girls grade due to our inexperience) so we started off on the back foot. However the students were amazing, they never gave up, tried their hardest in all games and definitely improved over the season. 

 The highlights were when the other team or even random supporters on the sidelines commented on our sportsmanship and how much we had improved.

Having Heather Jackson help out was great so thank you, Heather. The other teams in the grade were also supportive and often ‘lent’ us players if we were short. We thank those schools as well.

I am most impressed with these young people who exhibited the school values, particularly resilience, throughout the season.
