The Philippines Independence Day is celebrated on June 12th each year and to mark this occasion, our Filipino students hosted a variety of cultural activities during Week 7. These included language lessons, traditional games, folk dancing and music.

The Hornby High School annual Salu Salo evening was then held on Friday June 14th.

The week’s events were organised by the school’s Filipino Youth Group, under the guidance and tuition of Mrs Marijo Flores, our wonderful ESOL teacher aide.

Once again Mrs Flores and the students put on an amazing evening of performances. We were also joined at the Salu Salo by students, parents, and staff, from our Uru Mānuka primary schools.

This event has grown each year with the support of our Filipino community and we look forward to hosting again next year.
