Hornby High School Vege Garden Spring 2022

Mark Sowerby —

The great thing about a school vege garden is that lots of people get to use it in different ways.

Last week we had a class sit amongst the plants completing a writing task.  Kodie has been building new beds, Alex helps out with the watering at interval and a faithful group of students meet on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes to plant, weed, water and harvest! On Wednesday 3 classes joined with The Graham Dingle Foundation’s Kiwi Kaha team leaders to fill 3 new beds with soil and planted corn, tomatoes, pumpkins and a new feijoa hedge.

Roasted globe artichokes have been the favorite to harvest and eat this spring, with a few early strawberries disappearing fast. Carrots, beans, and peas are all growing well and we can almost see the sunflowers growing each day.
