Year 9 Dean's Report

Sarah Handley —

Kia Ora. This has certainly been an eventful month for our Year 9’s and I am very proud of the way the majority of them have responded to the events of March 15th.

As a year group we continue to focus on building positive relationships and looking after one another, both within our school and wider communities.

As we get into the later half of the term and the mornings get darker, we are starting to notice a rise in students arriving late to school. Please support your learners to show commitment to their learning by arriving to school on time with the equipment they require for learning - pens, books, charged chromebooks, lunch, and correct uniform.

Visiting classes this week, I have enjoyed getting to see some of the creative tasks students are working on. In the Soft Materials class, the students have been working on being more sustainable and have gone as far as making their own paper to design gift cards. It was great watching them squirm as they squished the pulp together and into their frames. 9Ay has also been demonstrating their creative excellence by designing and making wooden sundials to measure time. Not only have they shared this learning with a Year 7 and 8 class, but have also been in correspondence with Dr King who is the university bellringer at Cambridge and the keeper of the sundial on Great St Mary’s Church. Just some examples of the authentic learning and creative excellence of our Year 9 learners!
