Curriculum innovation successes
'Claymation' shows the way in student engagement and creativity
The innovative new Year 7 and 8 curriculum introduced at our kura this year is already showing big gains for our students. For significant parts of the day students are engaged in work in 'two class' groups in which their 'home room' teacher and a specialist teacher work together to create programmes that support both the specialist curriculum area and the fundamentals of literacy, numeracy, and the development of the national curriculum;'s key competencies. These pairings are designed to cover the whole curriculum over the course of a year.
In this case Mrs Allen-Fletcher (Year 7/8 teacher) and Mrs Clemence (HoD Art) have worked together to deliver a unit based around 'claymation'. Students are developing their artistic and creative skills, while also working on skills as varied as storyboarding and writing, collaboration and thinking.
Jayden and Jackson have produced some outstanding claymation figures from which they will produce a 'claymation' movie. Their creative work is outstanding, their collaboration and patience a model for us all. This is 'creative excellence' at its best. This is our 'Learn Create Share' pedagogy at its best. Yet again we are very proud of our students and the wonderful work they are producing. This work also says so much about the adaptive and educative skills of our wonderful staff. #creativeexcellence #manahoromaka
