Hands-On Otago University 2025
My name is Benjamin, and I am currently in Year 13, proudly serving as your Cultural Prefect.
I want to share an incredible opportunity that I recently experienced—the Hands-On Otago program at the University of Otago. If you're thinking about a future in the medical or science fields, this program is something you do not want to miss!
Imagine spending a week living like a real university student, exploring courses such as dentistry, chemistry, physics, biology, microbiology, and more. You get hands-on experience, not just theory, but actual lab work and experiments, giving you a real taste of what studying these subjects at Otago is like.
One of the best parts? You’ll be surrounded by like-minded students from all over New Zealand, all driven by the same passion for science and medicine. You’ll make new friends, discover new interests, and gain valuable experience that will set you apart when applying for university. Plus, you’ll get to take part in activities you’d never get to do in school!
For my main course, I chose microbiology, and it was absolutely fascinating. I got to work in real labs, learn from top university lecturers, and see firsthand what it's like to study at one of New Zealand’s best universities. And beyond that, the program includes fillers—where you can explore other courses that might interest you. You never know—you might find a new passion along the way!
I highly recommend that you apply for Hands-On Otago 2026! This program is more than just a learning experience, it’s a stepping stone to your future. If you’re serious about pursuing a career in the medical or science field, this will give you an invaluable head start.
Applications open in July and close in August, so mark your calendars! If you need any help with the application process, feel free to reach out to me—I’d be more than happy to assist you.
