Year 11 Dean's Report

Chris McLaren —

Kia ora, Talofa lava, Mālō e lelei, Bula, Namaste, Kamusta, Xin chào, greetings to all

Students continue to focus on achieving their NCEA credits. So many students are extending themselves and gaining Merit and Excellence passes.

A group of nine students attended the Biz Ninja programme in the city which was a great learning opportunity for our Pasifika students. They all had an opportunity to work collaboratively and pitch an idea to a panel of judges. Well done to Team One: Oceana Olsen, James Nicholson, Viaone Siaki, Junior Laloata and Team Two: Emmanuel Fa’avae, Juanita Fifita, Junior Tuliakiono, Jaedon Wellington and Alofa Mauafu. They all represented the school well and enhanced the school’s reputation by demonstrating our CARR values.

All year 11 student course outlines are being given out during form time. This is important information and provides a focus for students’ learning. Please support your young person by ensuring that they are learning ready, this includes being at school by 8.25am each day.

A personal Chromebook or laptop is an asset that all year 11 students require and need. Chromebooks assist their learning and students who do not have one are unfortunately being disadvantaged. As a teacher, I know what a huge difference it makes to learners when they have their own device. I highly recommend that all students have a device and that they bring it every day.

I am still very focused on having a 95% pass rate for NCEA level 1. All young people need guidance and encouragement to succeed so have conversations about their futures and most importantly always believe that they can achieve. They need to ‘aim high and work hard'.

I am really grateful for the opportunity to support and guide this wonderful group of students towards their future.

If you have news about your young person such as a sporting or cultural achievement outside of school, please let me know. I want to be able to celebrate every success that students have.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Ngā mihi

Whāea Chris McLaren
