What a fantastic wee energy recharge Easter has been and as we roll into the last week and a half of term, much of our hard work is coming to fruition.

As we have continued to settle in and adjust, it’s been great to take the time to visit various classes in Tīeke and experience first-hand the amazing learning journeys that have been happening with our tamariki. It was also great to share student profiles as well as this learning with the many of you that took time out to attend our student lead conferences. It is always great to say ‘hi’ face to face.

Wānanga time remains the focus for building relationships and routines, exploring aspects such as wellbeing, goal setting, Kiwi Kaha programmes for our Yr 7 students, STARS mentoring for our Year 9's and Kapa Haka and Junior Voices for all interested. Winter sport is also in the beginning stages as we wind up the summer sporting term.

The last week or so has seen us begin our Cultural Kete, Whakanuia ngā Ahurea (Celebrating Cultures) where students delve a little deeper into what makes them them through research and then celebrating it with a cultural afternoon the last week of term. It’s really exciting to see so many cultures come together and students sharing what they are passionate about!

As always….winding up to make the most of every learning opportunity!

In addition, a reminder as we have had a 5 day school ‘vacation':
School starts at 8.30am and it is an expectation that all students are in form time at 8.30am.

Full school uniform is to be worn including correct socks and shoes (PE gear can be worn to school Fridays for Years 7 & 8 as it is their sport day).

If your tamariki is absent from school, please contact the school office via phone call, text, School App or email.

If there are concerns or an issue has arisen at school that you would like to discuss, it is important that you contact your learner’s Wānanga advisor through email or a call to school. If you feel you require further clarification or support after you have spoken with them, then please contact me (dean) and then Mrs Karen Wheeler. We thank you for the continued support from whānau in keeping this consistency going between home and school and see it as invaluable for the success of your learner here at Hornby High School.

We look forward to hopefully seeing you for our cultural celebrations in the last week of term!
