Sports Report

Kana Shedlock-Whiu —

Over the last few months, fourteen talented Hornby High School students went through a rigorous selection process to represent Canterbury Rugby League and Waitaha U17s Taiohi Pango Whutupaoro (Rugby). Teams played in the Southern Zone Rugby League tournament, with three players from Hornby High School being selected in the Development Southern Zone Rugby League Team.

Kyra–Lee (Year 10) was selected for the Under 14’s Southern Zone Rugby League Tournament Team, Arlan (Year 12) and Junior (Year 13) were both selected for the Scorpions under 18's Rugby League Team. Both Arlan and Junior will travel to Auckland to play against Auckland at Mt Smart Stadium.

During the October school holidays Hornby High School Senior Boys' Basketball team participated at the Invitational Basketball Tournament held in Christchurch. They have developed and improved their resilience, skills, and respect towards officials, opposition and each other. It was a really positive year and the team culture has been really good. To our Year 13’s, you are really going to be missed next year. You have all dedicated yourself to Basketball with passion and represented your school proudly.

Well done to all the volleyball players who participated at the Canterbury Championships. Special recognition to Hornby High School Junior Boys' Volleyball team who placed 3rd overall at the Canterbury Junior Volleyball Championships.

Hornby High School Fun Run – Colour Splash Event

Both Hornby High School and Hornby Primary School combined for this amazing event. It was so much fun – there were obstacles, water, paint, a bouncy castle and so much more.

The day brought lots of smiles and it was fantastic to have students, teachers, and the local police help out to make the event such a success.

The event was organised to support KidsCan. KidsCan have been supporting disadvantaged kiwi kids since 2005. The program is designed to support families and children in need.  We thank all the families and community for getting involved.

Congratulations to all our Summer Sports teams. You have all done well over the season.
