Musical Fever

Katie Beer —

This year we have definitely had Musical Theatre fever!

In Term 2, Yr 10 Performing Arts students were challenged to research and perform a scene from a musical. This was great fun and we had an entertaining variety of styles: snappy blonde lawyers, snazzy dancers and scary dentists on show. Skills ranged from acting, singing, dancing to instrumental accompaniments and costume design.

In Term 3 Year 13 Music students chose to do their final performance task around the theme of musicals. This was a new genre to many and turned out to be the highlight of the year. From popular Disney shows to contemporary musicals such as "Dear Evan Hansen", a story of accepting yourself and becoming confident in your own skin, we had something for everyone!

In our final term we embarked on some African themed song and dance items with our year 7 & 8 Arts kete. This included solos, duets, ensemble singing, contemporary and African dance styles, slapstick comedy and tense dramatic conflicts. This built on the great work of Ms Baker and her team of orphans in 2016.  Mrs Beer, Ms Richardson and Mrs Clark were very excited to work with a wonderful team of students.

"It takes a little patience, takes a little time. A little perseverance and a little uphill climb." Quote Dear Evan Hansen
